Meet Jaylin-Idris Lomax: 2025 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University
Jaylin-Idris Lomax, from Detroit, Michigan, is attending North Carolina A&T State University to study chemical engineering. A graduate of Cass Technical High School, he hopes 
to build a career in the pharmaceutical industry and take advantage of opportunities that will help him grow as a future engineer.
Jaylin’s interest in STEM began when he joined his middle school robotics team. Although he ultimately chose a different area of engineering, the experience helped him discover his interest in the field and shaped what he wanted to pursue in the future.
Receiving the FOSSI scholarship felt like both a blessing and reassurance that choosing an HBCU was the right path for him. Outside of school, Jaylin enjoys spending time with friends, reading, writing stories, playing video games, and going on late-night drives. He was also a member of his high school marching band.
Meet Tyler Crawley: 2025 FOSSI Scholar Attending Howard University
Tyler Crawley, from Atlanta, Georgia, is attending Howard University to study computer science whil
e participating in Air Force ROTC. A graduate of Westlake High School, he served as a Cadet Lieutenant Colonel in JROTC, led nationally recognized Raider and Drill teams, and completed more than 150 hours of community service through tutoring, mentorship, and service projects.
Tyler’s interest in STEM began at age 14, when he built his first computer from scratch. That experience sparked his curiosity about technology, which grew through JROTC activities involving drones and coding. He was drawn to the problem-solving and creativity that STEM offered.
Looking ahead, Tyler hopes to combine technology and education to support underserved youth in Metro Atlanta. His goal is to develop educational games and interactive learning platforms while also becoming an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Outside of school, he enjoys R&B and rap music and attending concerts.
