Meet Some of Cabot's 2025 FOSSI Scholars

Thank you to our sponsor

FOSSI extends its sincere thanks to Cabot Corporation for supporting and investing in the futures of our FOSSI Scholars, including Seqouia Hollis and Darnell Smith. By opening doors to STEM education at HBCUs, Cabot is helping talented students pursue their ambitions and develop the skills needed to shape the future of STEM.

Meet Seqouia Hollis: 2025 FOSSI Scholar attending Alabama A&M University

Seqouia Hollis is from Mobile, Alabama, and is attending Alabama A&M University as a chemistry major. A first-generation college student and valedictorian of her high school class, she is passionate about creating cruelty-free products that are safe and accessible for all.

Known as “Qouia” to her friends and family, Seqouia discovered her love for chemistry in her high school honors chemistry class, where she became fascinated by chemical reactions and the way chemistry connects to everyday life. Her determination led her to balance straight A’s, extracurriculars, part-time jobs, and an internship at Hargrove Engineers & Constructors throughout high school.

Looking ahead, she hopes to gain hands-on experience through internships, inspire the next generation, and one day start a nonprofit organization supporting young Black girls from backgrounds similar to hers.

Meet Darnell Smith: 2025 FOSSI Scholar attending Morehouse College

Darnell Smith is from Houston, Texas, and is attending Morehouse College as a general science major in a dual degree engineering program. With a 4.73 GPA and numerous academic honors, he is passionate about using engineering to create solutions that make a difference.

Originally born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Darnell says his experiences have shaped his perspective through resilience, community, and growth. Beyond academics , he values leadership, community, and carrying on the traditions that make the university experience meaningful.

Looking ahead, he hopes to master the technical side of engineering while inspiring others, especially young people like his younger brother, to pursue their goals wholeheartedly.
