Meet Some of Eastman’s 2025 FOSSI Scholars

Thank you to our sponsor

FOSSI extends its sincere thanks to Eastman for supporting our FOSSI scholars and investing in their futures, including Jeremiah, Ajani, Jansyn, and Trevor. By opening doors to STEM education at HBCUs, Eastman is helping talented students pursue their ambitions and develop the skills needed to shape the future of STEM.

Meet Jeremiah Cooper: 2025 FOSSI scholar attending North Carolina A&T State University

Jeremiah Dakarai Cooper is from Charlotte, North Carolina, and is currently attending North Carolina A&T State University as a computer science major. His passion for technology deepened during a summer research program at UNC Charlotte, where he explored computer vision and human pose estimation using artificial intelligence.

After spending weeks troubleshooting technical challenges, Jeremiah experienced a breakthrough when his model successfully generated 3D human motion from video. The experience showed him that STEM is not just about coding, but about curiosity, perseverance, and collaboration. Looking ahead, Jeremiah hopes to build innovative technologies that combine artificial intelligence, sports science, and health to help improve athletic performance and prevent injuries.

Meet Ajani Davis: 2025 FOSSI scholar attending North Carolina A&T State University

Ajani Davis, from Houston, Texas, is studying computer science at North Carolina A&T State University. His interest in technology grew during the pandemic as he began learning more about how digital systems work and the role technology plays in protecting people and information online.

After moving from the United States to London during the pandemic, Ajani developed resilience and adaptability while adjusting to a new culture and education system. These experiences strengthened his curiosity about technology and its impact on everyday life. Today, he is especially interested in artificial intelligence and how emerging technologies can help build safer, more reliable digital systems.

Ajani looks forward to expanding his knowledge in computer science and contributing to technologies that strengthen digital infrastructure and support communities around the world.

Meet Jansyn Decuir: 2025 FOSSI scholar attending Prairie View A&M University

Jansyn Decuir is from Dallas, Texas, and attends Prairie View A&M University as a chemical engineering major. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where she balanced her academic pursuits with a strong passion for dance.

Jansyn is inspired by the creativity she sees in others, both in the arts and in academics. Watching others perform and achieve motivates her to push herself to reach new levels of excellence. She is excited to explore chemical engineering while continuing to express her creativity through art. As she begins her college journey, Jansyn looks forward to finding meaningful ways to connect her love of science and artistic expression.

Meet Trevor Jones: 2025 FOSSI scholar attending North Carolina A&T State University

Trevor Jones is from Memphis, Tennessee, and is a mechanical engineering student at North Carolina A&T State University. A dedicated musician and percussionist since the age of five, Trevor has a deep love for jazz and will be performing in the university’s marching band.

Trevor is also a published author, having written the motivational book Bruh, You Got This! at just 14 years old. Inspired by mentors, teachers, and his family, he is passionate about innovation and leadership. In the future, Trevor hopes to design energy-efficient systems while mentoring and encouraging the next generation of engineers.

Hear Trevor in the video below share more about his journey as a FOSSI scholar and author.

More on the 2025 class

The Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) celebrates its 2025 class of 131 FOSSI scholars. Since its inception, FOSSI has raised funding for more than 860 scholarships to support exceptional high school seniors pursuing preferred STEM degrees at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Each scholarship provides $40,000 in support ($10,000 per year).

See the video below for an inside look into how FOSSI is changing the lives of these amazing scholars.
