FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm a chemical engineering student from High Point, NC, attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by STEM. Growing up, I took a heavy interest in math and science classes. I also have a strong passion for helping others and volunteering. In the future, I hope to become a successful engineer and give back to my community.
FOSSI: What did it feel like when you found out you received the FOSSI scholarship?
At first, I was surprised. I didn't expect to win, even though I knew I met the requirements and completed the application correctly. I knew I couldn't pay for tuition on my own, so when I got the news, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and gratitude. It felt like a massive weight was lifted off my shoulders.
FOSSI: What kind of impact do you hope to be making ten years from now?
I hope to be making meaningful contributions at a thriving company. Through my work, I want to change the world for the better. I also see myself volunteering regularly and donating to causes I care about. Ultimately, I want to be a force for good in my community and beyond.
FOSSI: What are some surprising or unique facts about you?
I joined my high school's acting troupe and played characters like the Wizard of Oz and Wall/Snout in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Before that, I played the clarinet in middle school.
