FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Warner Robins, GA, where I attended Houston County High School. I’ve lived in Warner Robins my entire life, growing up in a nurturing home with my three sisters. My family is actively involved in both community service and church activities.
Academically, I consistently excelled, maintaining honor roll status with straight A’s. Before graduating high school, I volunteered at local camps and organizations, exploring careers in graphic design, engineering, chemistry, and teaching. My volunteer work included contributions to a national STEM academy, vacation Bible schools at two churches, and teaching art classes in an elementary school’s after-school program.
My academic achievements include a 4.0 GPA and the completion of 44 college credit hours through dual enrollment. I became especially interested in the human body during high school, particularly through anatomy and biology classes.
As I begin my undergraduate journey, I remain committed to community service and helping those in need. My goal is to graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. As the youngest in my family, with two older sisters currently attending Fort Valley State University (FVSU), I’m proud to continue our family legacy. Receiving the FOSSI scholarship is a tremendous honor and a chance to share my unique talents with the vibrant FVSU community.
FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?
I’ve always been interested in science, but my curiosity grew even more after taking anatomy in high school. I became especially fascinated by the human body and how it functions. My father, an electrical engineer, has always encouraged my sisters and me to pursue STEM-related careers. I’m naturally curious about how things work, and I believe that curiosity, combined with my love of science, will lead me to a fulfilling career in STEM.
FOSSI: Why is receiving the FOSSI scholarship important for you?
The FOSSI scholarship is important to me not only because it helps with college expenses, but also because it provides the opportunity to have a mentor who can guide me in STEM and help me explore different career paths. I’m excited to learn from others with experience in the field who can offer support, answer questions, and help me reach my goals.
FOSSI: Who is a role model that has influenced you?
My parents have always been strong role models. They set high expectations for my siblings and me, but also supported us in reaching our goals, making those expectations feel achievable. They’ve instilled a strong work ethic and led by example through their commitment to being good citizens and servant leaders. Because of their guidance, I understand the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
FOSSI: Fast forward – where do you see yourself in ten years?
In ten years, I see myself having completed or nearly completed my education. I plan to apply everything I’ve learned—both in school and through life experiences—to build a strong foundation for my career. In the early stages, my goal is to learn as much as possible and work hard to make a meaningful impact.
FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.
I love to read, paint, and draw. I’m also a self-published author and illustrator of a children’s book series that I co-wrote with my sisters.
