
FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hey, my name is Bailey Davis and I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I graduated from Energy Institute High School and started my journey at the prestigious Howard University this past fall as a chemistry major, joining the freshman class of 2028.
STEM fields offer endless opportunities for exploration and innovation, allowing me to think creatively and outside the box to uncover new ideas and solutions.
FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?
I’m passionate about pursuing a STEM degree because science, particularly chemistry, has always captivated me, and I see it as the foundation for understanding life's complexities. STEM fields offer endless opportunities for exploration and innovation, allowing me to think creatively and outside the box to uncover new ideas and solutions.
By immersing myself in STEM education, I can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to make a meaningful impact on underserved communities through my future practice.
FOSSI: Why is receiving the FOSSI scholarship important for you?
Being a recipient of the FOSSI scholarship means the world to me for a few key reasons. Firstly, it acknowledges the effort and dedication I’ve put into my studies, which is incredibly validating and motivating. Secondly, it eases the financial burden of pursuing higher education, allowing me to focus more on learning and less on worrying about finances. And lastly, it symbolizes an investment in my future and my aspirations, including giving back to underserved communities. In short, receiving this scholarship is a huge honor and a significant step toward achieving my dreams.
