Meet Ava Peace: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending Tuskegee University

November 15, 2024

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Ava Riley Peace. I am a recent North Garland High School graduate with distinction as an AP scholar. At North Garland HS, I was the National Honor Society President and an active member of Raider Heat Step Team, African Black Student Union, UN, HOSA, Prom Committee, Cachet Youth Group, and a Math, Science, & Technology student. My commitment to service is longstanding. I have organized sock drives for the homeless and participated in countless community service projects, including city-wide clean-ups, back-to-school drives, and mobile food pantries.

With humanity's future among the stars, I can think of no greater purpose than to dedicate my life to advancing our understanding of space through a career rooted in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?

Since I was a child gazing up at the stars, I've been captivated by the vast mysteries of our universe and driven by an insatiable thirst for exploration. Pursuing a degree in a STEM field will equip me with the knowledge and skills to unlock the secrets of the universe and potentially one day journey into the great unknown as an astronaut. With humanity's future among the stars, I can think of no greater purpose than to dedicate my life to advancing our understanding of space through a career rooted in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
