FOSSI: Could you share a few highlights about your time at Tennessee State University?

A highlight about my time at Tennessee State University has to be the extra-curricular activities. Participating in clubs has allowed me to meet many new people. Another highlight is being a part of the IMAGES of STEM program here at TSU, as this has positively impacted my college life.

FOSSI: How has the FOSSI Scholarship impacted your experience at Tennessee State University?

The FOSSI scholarship has dramatically impacted my experience at Tennessee State University. Because of this scholarship, I don’t have any school fees which means I don’t have to work during school.  I can soley focus on my studies without worrying about money and most importantly, this takes the stress of paying for my schooling away from my parents.

FOSSI: How are your studies going – what are the biggest challenges and what do you like most?

Pursuing my degree has been great and what I like the most is the challenge that comes with earning my degree. Every semester, the classes get harder and harder, which forces me to grow instead of being stagnant. The biggest challenge has to be the excess amount of time I have to put into my studies.

FOSSI: What extra-curricular activities are you enjoying on campus?

An extra-curricular activity I have been enjoying on campus is the E-Sports club. I’ve met many great new people while also having fun playing games. I am also enjoying being a part of IEEE and NSBE.

FOSSI: Have you participated in an internship or visited your sponsor’s offices? If so, tell us about your experience.

I am currently on an internship with Chemours and I am truly enjoying my visit here. The people here on the Chemours Belle Plant are extremely nice and have been helpful with my transition. My experience has been great, as I am seeing actual engineers in the workforce and how a chemical plant works behind the scenes.Brian with his intern mentor, Tom Montgomery, during his summer internship with Chemours in West Virginia.

A highlight has been seeing how the different chemicals can make items we use on a daily basis. It’s just amazing how you can turn a hazardous chemical into essential everyday items.
