Meet Jaylen Williams: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending Tuskegee University

September 5, 2022

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Jaylen Williams and I was born and raised in Lithonia, GA. I spent most of my childhood playing baseball. I was then introduced to Agriculture at Arabia Mountain High School. I was fortunate enough to be involved for all four years. I was able to travel and be introduced to things for the first time. Thanks to this experience I will be attending Tuskegee University in the fall to expand my knowledge and love for agriculture.

FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?

I would like to change the overall perspective of STEM. STEM has so many moving parts that connect to so many different career opportunities.

FOSSI: Why is receiving the FOSSI scholarship important for you?

The FOSSI scholarship is a dream come true. With this scholarship a huge burden has been lifted off of my mom and I's shoulders. I will be able to focus on my studies and enjoy all that college has to offer.

FOSSI: Who is a role model that has influenced you?

My biggest influence has to be my Agriculture advisor at Arabia Mountain High School. Ms. Davis made sure to put me in positions that were out of my comfort zone. She exposed me to the exciting part of STEM. She made STEM interesting.

FOSSI: Fast forward – where do you see yourself in ten years?

In ten years, I would love to have an advanced degree in STEM. I will have a career in STEM and be working towards my dreams.

FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.

  • I've played baseball for 14 years.
  • I can swim.
  • I am an introvert (at first).
  • I love seafood.
  • I am an only child.
  • My favorite childhood movie is "Hercules."
