FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Maya Johnson. I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Growing up, I have always had a passion for science and math and both subjects became my strong suits. I love learning and I believe just science and math alone can teach so much, especially science! I knew that I've always wanted to incorporate both subjects in my future career. Now, I'm heading to Howard University to do just that. I will be working hard to obtain a Doctorate of Pharmacy and I plan on using my degree to help others.
FOSSI: Why is receiving the FOSSI scholarship important for you?
The FOSSI scholarship provides such useful resources for students who are working to pursue a degree in STEM-related fields. This scholarship not only provides academic funds for students, but other resources like internship opportunities. This scholarship is very important to me and I believe it will truly help me achieve my academic and career goals. I will be forever grateful for this scholarship and I know it will serve as a great stepping stone in my academic and future career goals.

- I was awarded a People's Choice Award for a national competition called Videos for Change.
- I was named Student Activist of the month for a local magazine.
- I am a foodie and I'm always willing to try new dishes.
