This summer FOSSI scholar Addisyn McCall had the opportunity to work as an Environmental, Health and Safety intern at her FOSSI partner company, Hexion, in Columbus, OH.
Addisyn’s internship
During her internship, she contributed to a 2024 Customer Benchmarking Project, worked on a Communications on Progress Report, and reviewed EPA SACC Public Meeting transcripts. Addisyn also participated in an Impact Project with the full 2024 Hexion intern class, supporting families facing food insecurity by volunteering at local food pantries and organizing fundraising events at the corporate office to raise awareness among Hexion associates.
Excited to have a FOSSI scholar on their campus, the AfricanDiaspora@Hexion Business Resource Group (BRG) celebrated Addisyn with an afternoon reception in Columbus. Zeru Tekie, Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, and Executive Sponsor of the BRG; and Audrey Glenn, Regional Manufacturing Controller and Co-Chair of the BRG, briefed guests on FOSSI. Addisyn’s supervisor, Jacob Miller, Senior Sustainability Specialist, spoke of her many contributions to the company’s business.
Addisyn reflects on FOSSI and her time at Hexion
In her remarks, Addisyn noted, “The Future of STEM Scholars Initiative Scholarship and its partnership with Hexion have significantly impacted my life. It has enabled me to gain experience, and grow and adapt to the diverse fields of study in STEM. I would like to thank FOSSI and Hexion for granting me this opportunity, as well as my parents, Adam and Tamara McCall, for their amazing support.”
Hexion looks to the future
“Hexion’s collaboration with the Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) underscores our unwavering dedication to nurturing the forthcoming cadre of trailblazers and innovators within the chemical sector,” said Brian Black, Global Director of DEI, Employee Engagement, and Social Impact. “We are delighted to welcome Addisyn to our team this summer. Her contributions have been immensely beneficial, adding significant value to our operations. We eagerly anticipate her return next summer.”
