Meet Angelina Aubain: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending Spelman College

August 13, 2024

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Angelina and I’m from Wilmington, DE. I am 100% committed to attending Spelman College and I plan on double majoring in chemistry and chemical engineering. I enjoy embracing new challenges and opportunities for growth in both my academic and personal endeavors. In 2022, I was crowned Miss Black Teen USA Talented Teen, and I was able to use my platform to educate others on mental health in teens through a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).  In this role, I was also able to embrace my other passion for traveling. In my free time, I love to hang out with friends and family, and shop.

FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?

Ever since I saw the hot orange flame of fire turn a greenish blue color, I have been fascinated by chemistry. I've enjoyed everything about it, from mixing diverse chemicals together to create different products, to learning the different chemical equations in class. I have seen the profound impact that this area of study  has on our daily lives.

The study of chemistry and chemical engineering would supply me with a crucial understanding of the chemical reactions that transpire as well as advance my problem-solving and analytical thinking skills. Additionally, this area of study will provide me with the tools I need to excel in my future career. Although this path will come with  struggles, the number of advantages will surely surpass any challenge that I may face along the way.

FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.

I have attended seven different schools due to my parents’ occupation, which has been quite the adventure. It has enabled me to live in many states and countries including Buffalo, New York; Victoria, Texas; Newark, Delaware; Singapore, and Taiwan to name a few.
