FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi! My name is Channing Wyatt and I live in Stockbridge, GA. I was born in June 2005 and I am 18 years old. Both my parents are educators, so I always felt the need to do well in school. I graduated from Dutchtown High School in Hampton, GA, Magna Cum Laude with a 4.2 GPA. I was named Mr. Senior and voted Best Smile by the Senior Class. During high school, I participated in Basketball, Cross Country, National Honors Society, and served as Vice-President of the Dutchtown Ambassadors Program. I plan to continue my education at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University to major in Mechanical Engineering.
I feel that my decision to attend FAMU will allow me to gain the exposure and experience that I need to make a positive impact on my community.
FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?
As I’ve gone through school, STEM careers piqued my interest. The concepts in science and math have always come naturally to me. I attended STEM camps and started taking high school math courses in middle school. As I decided on a major, I knew I wanted to choose something I have loved and been good at my whole life. Mechanical engineering checks those boxes for me. I plan to study Mechanical Engineering at the FAMU-FSU School of Engineering.
FOSSI: Why is receiving the FOSSI scholarship important for you?
Receiving the FOSSI scholarship is important to me because it will help alleviate the financial burden of attending an out-of-state school to pursue my Mechanical Engineering degree. I have known I wanted to go to an HBCU since middle school and Florida A&M has been my dream school. I feel that my decision to attend FAMU will allow me to gain the exposure and experience that I need to make a positive impact on my community.
