Meet Landen Anderson: 2023 FOSSI Scholar Attending Prairie View A&M University

April 22, 2024

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Landen Anderson and I'm a 2023 graduate of Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress, TX. I have volunteered with several local organizations where I had the privilege of serving meals, organizing donations, and mentoring youth. I have also participated in many extracurriculars including the Black Student Union, the Poney Up mentorship program, and the Economics for Leaders summer internship program. I was also a member of Jack & Jill of America for six years where I served as our chapter's Sergeant At Arms. I have a love for baseball and I've been playing since I was eight years old. As a leader on the Cypress Ranch Varsity Baseball team, I earned All-District as an Outfielder.

My initial interest in STEM began the summer of seventh grade when I attended a 4H-STEM Camp sponsored by Prairie View A&M University. I will now further my education at that same University, where I will participate in Prairie View A&M University's Summer Study Abroad Program for incoming freshman and major in electrical engineering in the fall.

Achieving a degree in electrical engineering puts me in a field that is focused on forward thinking, continuous growth, exploration, and lifelong learning.

FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?

Achieving a degree in electrical engineering puts me in a field that is focused on forward thinking, continuous growth, exploration, and lifelong learning. These things have always been important to me, especially in a world that is always evolving. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to work in a field that will push me to grow and continue to evolve.

FOSSI: Why is receiving the FOSSI scholarship important for you?

Receiving this scholarship is very important to me because it's an investment in my future in so many ways! It is the opportunity for me to meet and network with other students who have similar passions in STEM. It is also an opportunity for me to receive crucial training on interviewing and public speaking that will contribute to my success beyond the four years of college. It is a chance to work with successful and well-known companies that are ready and willing to invest in me as an employee once I graduate. And lastly, it is an opportunity for mentorship. I am so grateful for this opportunity.

FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.

I enjoy fishing, spending time with his friends, and learning new things. My friends and I play a game in our neighborhood where we split into teams and compete to see who can catch the most fish throughout the neighborhood in the least amount of time.

We invite companies not currently supporting FOSSI to build their pipeline of outstanding and diverse talent by supporting a FOSSI scholar. Learn more.
