FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a recent graduate of the magnet program at Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout
high school, I received several accolades for my academic performance including induction into the National Society of High School Scholars and the National Honor Society. In 2022, I received the Georgia Certificate of Merit where I was acknowledged for being in the Top 5% in the State of Georgia. Likewise, as a senior, I was recognized as one of the Top 25 students in my school, a recipient of the Principal’s Honor Roll, and the SAT and Stellar awards.
Throughout high school, I participated in various extracurricular activities including the National Honor Society, College Inroads, and DECA -- where I held a leadership position and worked diligently to compete in various business competitions. I also spent much of my free time working and serving the community primarily through toy and food donations.
I have always been immersed in STEM activities which led to my decision to pursue a degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Howard University. Pursuing a STEM degree will grant me the opportunity to build upon my past experiences, allowing me to grow and, one day, make a difference for the greater good of society.
Being a recipient of the FOSSI scholarship not only solidified my decision to attend my top choice university, but it also gave me the peace of mind that I will need to focus and concentrate on achieving my degree in Computer Science.
FOSSI: Why is receiving the FOSSI scholarship important for you?
When I first stepped foot on the campus of Howard University, I knew that it was the place for me. Not only did I feel surrounded by some of the brightest kids from all over the world, but I felt a great deal of pride and support in a community where I could succeed. Though Howard was my top choice, I felt a great deal of apprehension because of the cost of attendance. Being a recipient of the FOSSI scholarship not only solidified my decision to attend my top choice university, but it also gave me the peace of mind that I will need to focus and concentrate on achieving my degree in Computer Science. What is equally exciting about being selected for this prestigious award is the opportunity to collaborate with others, including mentors and fellow recipients, to expand my knowledge and grow throughout my time in college.
FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.
- If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be pasta.
- My favorite season is winter, because I love the cold.
- One of my favorite pastimes is listening to music because it relaxes me.
