Meet Micah Halley: 2023 FOSSI Scholar Attending Howard University

January 23, 2024

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hey, my name is Micah Halley, and I am a class of 2023 graduate from South Gwinnett High School. While in high school, I maintained Principal's List for all four years, graduated with a 3.98 GPA, and finished with a class rank of 38/566. I was also  involved in extracurriculars such as Marching Band, BETA Club and the swim team.

I am originally from East Orange, New Jersey but moved to Snellville, Georgia when I was seven years old. I have an amazing older sister who has influenced my love for music. Growing up, she played the guitar and the piano which influenced me to want to take on playing instruments. Now, I play the clarinet and I am currently in the process of learning how to play the mellophone. Three words I would use to describe me would probably be determined, smart and hilarious.

FOSSI: Who is a role model that has influenced you?

A role model that has influenced me would definitely be my lovely mother. As a single parent, she has done such an amazing job raising and caring for me and my sister. She taught us the importance of independence, to not give up when things get tough and has always encouraged us to chase our dreams. Because of her support and faith in me, I am able to attend my dream school. As each day goes by, I continue to admire and be inspired by her hard work ethic. Her work ethic is something that motivates me to want to keep pushing and make her proud. Without her, I wouldn't be the man I am today and I am forever grateful to call her my mother.

FOSSI: Fast forward – where do you see yourself in ten years?

After all the hard work and dedication, in ten years, I see myself finally accomplishing my dream of being a Forensic Chemist working with the FBI. After completing my education, I plan to apply for internships and entry level positions in forensic chemistry. I hope to gain experience in the field by working in a crime lab or with a law enforcement agency. When I build my knowledge and skills, I will use them to bring justice to victims and their families. This career path has always been a dream of mine and I have already started working towards it.

FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.

  • I served as a Drum Major for my high school's marching band for the 2022-23 season.
  • I'm a huge music fan and my favorite artists include Kendrick Lamar, Drake and SZA.
  • I love traveling out of the country. I've traveled to places like Mexico, Guyana, Belize and St. Thomas
  • Stranger Things is probably my favorite series ever.
