Meet Udochi Osuji: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University

May 23, 2023

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hey guys!! My name is Udochi Isaiah Osuji. I am the son of  Chinwe Osuji and I am from Atlanta Georgia. I love taking pictures, working out, and dressing up for fun. My name is Nigerian and it means "God's peace". I am majoring in mechanical engineering on the pre-dental track in hopes of becoming an orthodontist . I am very grateful to be a FOSSI scholar and I can't wait to see what the future has in store! :)

FOSSI: Why is receiving the FOSSI scholarship important for you?

There are multiple reasons why the FOSSI scholarship is important to me, but the most important reason would be the relief it would bring to my mother.  College is expensive and considering I also want to attend dental school after I graduate, it certainly doesn't get any cheaper from there. I am not an only child; I have a little sister who my mother also has to attend to when I go off to college. Being a single mom is not easy, so I want to do whatever I can to make things easier for her.

FOSSI: Who is a role model that has influenced you?

According to Dictionary.com, a role model is "a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially by younger people." When I see this term, many people come to mind whether it be a celebrity, an athlete, a teacher, or even a coach. I don't mean to be cliché when I say this, but one person whose footsteps and guidance I continuously follow throughout my life and consider a mentor, is my mom. My mom is without a doubt the hardest working individual I know. Raising me and my sister by herself and hustling to provide for the both of us even though there were tough times, is something that inspires me to push and grind no matter the circumstances.

FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.

  • I do photography. (@shotsbydochi on instagram if you want to check out some of my work) :)
  • I love eating seafood.
  • I love dressing up.
