Meet Isaiah Wimbush: 2022 FOSSI Scholar Attending Morehouse College

February 21, 2023

FOSSI: Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have always wanted to set higher standards for myself, even as a little kid. Playing 3 sports and maintaining a 3.7 GPA since the age of 4, I continue to set high goals and standards for myself to maintain a successful, healthy lifestyle.  I have involved myself in football, basketball, track, baseball, and track and field during my lifetime and I'm not afraid to try new things out. I tried out snowboarding and it has become one of my favorite things to do during the winter as you get a thrill that is hard to find anywhere else.

I love to travel. I've been to over 10 states and I've also traveled outside of the country to spend a couple of weeks in Australia. I want to continue to travel while I am still young and hopefully try studying abroad in the near future. I am not the most talkative but I am very energetic and an active person that loves being outdoors. If i am not outside getting a workout in, I would be inside playing the game or watching TV and relaxing. I believe keeping a healthy lifestyle and maintaining high reaching goals will keep me afloat in this world.

FOSSI: Why are you passionate about pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field?

I have decided to enter an engineering field because I want to be a part of the technology that shapes the future of our world.

I got interested in this field of study late in my educational year, but after taking some classes, it captivated my attention.  I look forward to working for major technology companies that will help me build my skills. I hope to then use the skills I've learned to form a company of my own.

While I hope to develop and gain knowledge in each type of engineering, I want to hone my skills in one particular engineering field so that I can be prepared at any time for any job in that field.  I want to help companies produce the most efficient and economically beneficial products on the market to also help raise my stock. The money from this scholarship will aid me in my aspirations to become a successful engineer in a field that not many black minorities pursue.

FOSSI: Share a few fun facts about yourself.

  • I have been to 10+ states in the US.
  • I have been outside of the country once to Australia.
  • I have played sports since I was 4 years old.
  • I have only broken one bone in my body, my foot.
